About Armstrong Transport Group
Armstrong Transport Group is a third-party logistics provider. Their mission is to create seamless connections between shippers and carriers while delivering exceptional customer experiences. They do this through a diverse community of independent agent offices across the US and Canada.
The company’s teams support both shippers and carriers to ensure that each shipment is handled with the care and attention it deserves. We spoke with Stephen Little, Director of Learning & Development at Armstrong Transport Group, about his company’s effortless adoption of TalentLMS and discovering exciting new ways to deploy training programs for internal and external learners.
Embracing new ways of training with TalentLMS
Before discovering TalentLMS, Armstrong Transport Group relied on a different learning management tool. However, as time went on, the expense didn’t justify the quality of service they received. As the Director of L&D, Stephen needed a new way to centralize their online training efforts.
“We needed a solution that would allow us to seamlessly move to a more reliable training environment,” he recalls. This is where TalentLMS piqued his interest with its intuitive design and engaging customer experience. “When we reached out to TalentLMS, we got a response right away.” Once Stephen started testing the platform to determine how it fits their needs, it became clear that it was the right choice for Armstrong Transport Group.
The company decided to move forward and really appreciated TalentLMS’s support in setting up their new training portal. Stephen said they had a lot of questions regarding the platform, and their onboarding specialist was there every step of the way.
“Onboarding to TalentLMS was phenomenal. We’re really happy with the support we got through the process.”
Once TalentLMS was deployed and shared with learners, the response was unanimously positive. Users were curious about how their new learning platform would look and feel. As Stephen introduced TalentLMS, they found it very user-friendly and intuitive to navigate.
They were really happy with the platform’s search and course catalog functionality as a convenient way to instantly find what they were looking for.
“We’re getting great feedback from our employees. We can’t say enough about how much we love using TalentLMS.”
Branching internal & external training
The company uses TalentLMS to provide two types of users with online learning: its employees and external contractors. Stephen needed to find an intuitive way to differentiate their training.
This is where TalentLMS’s branch feature stood out as an ideal solution. As he pointed out,
“When we learned about branches, we instantly loved the idea of using them to separate our training environments.”
Given that many Armstrong Transport Group employees are hired remotely, they use online learning to bring new hires aboard. “Every month, we hire 5-10 employees who then go through about a month of onboarding.”
The company’s employee training is geared towards corporate and soft skills. On the other hand, the contractors focus on sales training. So, this was a great way for the company to separate the two based on their needs.
“The sky is the limit for us when it comes to training with TalentLMS’s branches.”
Beyond onboarding, Armstrong Transport Group also uses TalentLMS for product training. Employees learn how to use the company’s internal software (ATG) by completing courses on their portal.
To ensure a smooth transition, they’re developing a pilot program within TalentLMS to introduce the new version’s capabilities with side-by-side comparisons with the previous one. Thanks to the successful implementation, ATG’s users have had very few issues adapting to the changes.
Learning powered by ‘dynamite’ support
Since adopting TalentLMS, Stephen’s focus has turned to managing Armstrong Academy, their training portal.
This is where he discovered a range of options; from tutorials to videos and other helpful resources like the TalentLMS podcast. The platform’s help center proved to be invaluable when it came to learning the ropes and making the most out of the company’s portal.
Stephen praised how quick and accessible TalentLMS’s live chat support was to the company on a daily basis. He loved how he got his responses straight within the platform, from a real person, and without downtime.
“Using the live chat is seamless, and we got all the answers we needed right away.”
He found customer support to be very proactive in responding to all their emails. Whether he engaged with live chat or email, Stephen praised TalentLMS as helpful in all available communication channels. “The customer support is dynamite, absolutely awesome.”
A gamified & rewarding training experience
As their new online training platform took root, Stephen saw an opportunity to spark their learners’ competitive spirit. This is where TalentLMS’s gamification features presented them with the perfect opportunity to create an engaging, interactive learning experience. Gamification allowed them to assign points to learner activities, encouraging users to complete their training successfully and on time.
“TalentLMS’s gamification has created a healthy competition among our learners.”
The company started running raffles based on gamification leaderboard rankings. He went on to say they also implemented monthly shoutouts and a trophy they pass around the office for the top-ranking learner. With gamified learning, Armstrong Transport Group not only ensures that everyone is aligned on knowledge and skills but also recognizes and rewards their investment in training.

Go beyond training
Once they started exploring their portal’s features, it became clear that TalentLMS could do so much more for Armstrong Transport Group. Stephen pointed to automated notifications as their most exciting discovery. They use notifications to inform learners about training, workshops, and beyond.
For example, Stephen told us about the company’s town hall meetings and how they use their training portal to invite employees to these events. “Using TalentLMS to send email invites to employees has been a big success for us in terms of attendance. We now use notifications on a weekly basis”, he added.
Armstrong Transport Group is a sizable logistics company with a diverse workforce, and not all are used to online learning. To make it easy for everyone to access, Stephen used TalentLMS’s Single Sign-On (SSO) feature.
This allowed everyone to log in to their training portal with a click, improving cybersecurity and enabling them to easily access their assigned courses. “Our employees engage with online learning far more than before thanks to TalentLMS’s SSO.”
Charting the path forward with TalentLMS
According to Stephen, the customer experience journey made TalentLMS stand out among other LMSs. He was impressed with how quick and thorough the support was throughout the process.
With the smooth transition to a new platform and an array of intuitive features that greeted them, Armstrong Transport Group found a solution that met all its needs and then some.
“The customer experience was top-tier for us from the start.”
The company now relies on TalentLMS to deploy engaging and gamified training, ensuring everyone experiences truly rewarding and immersive learning. “We would not be able to do it all without TalentLMS,” Stephen said. Now, their learners can easily access all the online training they need from day one.
“Thanks to how robust and easy it is to use, we plan to stick with TalentLMS for a very long time.”
